UPSC 2012

The Union  Public Service  Commission is an independent body, came into existence on 26th January 1950 when the constituent  assembly accorded Federal Public Service Commission a constitutional status under Article 315 of the constitution, and renamed it as Union Public Service Commission.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC 2012) is going to conduct their Combined Services Examination for recruitment of IAS, IES, IFS, CDS, CFS etc for all over the India. As per the announcement, UPSC 2012 will conduct the Examination on three phase, Ist one will be Preliminary Examination then Main Examination and finally Interview will be conducted for selected list of candidates.

 

STAGE 1: PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION 2012

This exam will be objective type (Multiple choice questions). There will be 2 question papers; one on General Studies and the other on Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) carrying 200 marks, and 2 hours duration, each.


PAPER I – (200 MARKS) DURATION: TWO HOURS
• Current events of national and international importance
• History of India and Indian National Movement
• Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.
• Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization .
• General Science.
PAPER II- (200 MARKS) DURATION: TWO HOURS
• Comprehension
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
• Logical reason ing and analytical ability
• Decision making and problem solving
• General mental ability
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts,graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. -Class X level)
• English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).
• Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level
• The questions will be of multiple choices, objective type.
• The prospective candidates are advised to note that no changes are being introduced at this stage in the Civil Services.

For each wrong answer, 1/3 rd of the marks of that question will be cut as penalty. If you mark 2 answers for 1 question then also same penalty will be applicable and the answer will be taken as wrong answer. No penalty for unanswered questions.


APPLICATION FORM:

Application forms will be available in all major Post Offices in the mid-of-Febuary


EXAM FEE:

Rs. 50 /- Open category students. SC/ST candidates are NOT required to pay the fees. Affix single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp on the standard Application Form.

 

STAGE 2: MAIN EXAMINATION

Total Marks: 2000 (Marks of English and Marathi will not be counted for final result).

APPLICATION FORM: Application form for UPSE 2012 Main examination will be supplied by UPSC, only to those who qualify in the Prelims examination.

EXAM FEE:
The exam fees for UPSE 2012 is Rs. 100/- forOpen category students in the form of Central Recruitment Fee Stamp.

COMPULSORY:
• English (Standard of exam will be of 10 th STD. Qualifying nature. Marks of this subject will not be considered for final ranking): 300 Marks
• Marathi (Standard of exam will be of 10 th STD. Qualifying nature. Marks of this subject will not be considered for final ranking): 300 Marks
• General Studies (2 question papers): 300 Marks each. Standard of exam will be of Graduation level

STAGE 3: INTERVIEW • Interview will probably be held every year between Mar and April.
• Total Marks : 300
FINAL RANKING
The total marks obtained by you in the Main examination as well as Interview will determine your final rank.
ELIGIBILITY:
UPSE 2012 Educational Qualification: Any degree or equivalent from any Indian University or other educational institution deemed as a University or possess an equivalent qualification (No restriction on the basis of marks, class or duration of the course.). A candidate in final year of the degree course can also apply in Prelims exam but must provide a proof of the qualification at the time of applying for Main exam.
