Film Editing Courses
Editing is an integral part of film making. Film editing can be defined as a process of selecting the scenes and combining them in sequence, in order to make a motion picture. Sometimes, film editing is referred to as an invisible art,
because viewers are generally unaware of the work of a film editor. There are three stages of film editing. These are the editor's cut, director's cut and the final cut. Apart from concentrating on these three stages, a film editor has to keep a check on the different criteria, such as emotion, story, rhythm, audience focus of interest, two dimensional plane of the screen and three dimensional space of action, while editing. Film editing has become a money-spinning job, thanks to the increasing demand for skilled film editors in the entertainment industry. Keeping this in mind, many institutes that have been offering courses in different branches of film making have started conducting courses for becoming film editors as well.
In the present scenario, courses are available for film editing, in several film institutes of India. These courses are usually offered at certificate level, diploma level or postgraduate diploma level. The purpose behind the courses is to educate students in all aspects of film editing such as non-linear editing, professional editing etc. One should have passed 10+2 level for the UG courses and graduation in relevant stream is necessary to get enrolled to postgraduate diploma courses in film editing.
Several institutes in India are now conducting courses in the field of film editing. Some of the prominent institutes that offer film editing courses are Digital Academy (Mumbai), Film and Television Institute of India (Pune), Flash Frame Visuals Academy of Film and Video Editing (Bangalore) and Center for Research in Art of Film and Television (Delhi).
